By Lantern Light is a cozy, 1776-inspired family evening combining traditional crafts, mountain music, historical costumes, gratitude, and kindness. Families wander among the stations in any order while costumed hosts help children create meaningful take-home projects.
Craft & Activity Stations
1. Roving Artist Paint & Take Station
An artist guides children in creating a small painting inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains, lavender, kindness, or early American life. Use small canvas boards or sturdy watercolor paper to keep the project manageable within the event time.
2. Beeswax Candle Dipping
Children dip a cotton wick into melted beeswax to create an old-fashioned taper candle. Provide multiple dipping containers, trained attendants, protective table coverings, a cooling area, and close adult supervision.
3. Hands-On Fiber Station
A costumed host demonstrates how wool was prepared and used in early America. Children can touch fiber, try carding wool, and create a simple wool kindness heart or other small keepsake.
4. Lavender Gratitude Sachet
Children fill a stamped muslin bag with dried lavender and add a small gratitude slip beginning with: “Today, I am thankful for…”
5. Kindness Lantern Craft
Children decorate a mason jar with tissue paper, ribbon, leaves, stars, and kindness words. Place a battery-operated tea light inside for a safe glow.
6. Make-Your-Own Herbal Tea
Children smell and select herbs to create a personal tea blend. Suggested ingredients include lavender, chamomile, peppermint, lemon balm, dried apple, and cinnamon. Offer a prepared tea sample and a light refreshment.
Artisan Ticket - $20 all hands-on craft stations, take-home creations, herbal tea and light refreshments.
